First documents with Zappoli’s surname
The origin of the surname Zappoli is linked to one family, which means that all the Zappolis are relatives and most of them descend directly from Domenico de’ Giorgi said Zapolo. Domenico de’ Giorgi was born in Labante, a place located in Castel d’Aiano (BO) around the end of the 15th century. The Zappolis were almost all small landowners: you can easily find their wills or buying and selling deeds, except for Angelo Zappoli (born in 1798) who was a shoemaker.
Pellegrino called Zapolo was born around the 1510: we know that he lived in Labante and that he married Domenica Nadalini. On the 13th January 1552 Silvestro Nadalini sold his land to Pellegrino with a deed of the notary Davide Tonelli from Vergato: this is the oldest legal act found with the name Zappoli.
